Antoine GUILLEMET 1841–1918
French painter, a landscape artist associated with the Impressionists.
He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under the guidance of two great classical masters who had a significant influence on his career: Daubigny and Corot.
His meeting with Cézanne in 1861, who later introduced him to Manet, led him to spend time with the Impressionists.
Manet even had Guillemet pose for one of his most famous paintings, *Le Balcon*, and Zola drew inspiration from it for one of his characters.

Given his background and his friendship with Zola, the artist initially turned to naturalism, and his landscapes resemble those of the Barbizon School, though with a more modern touch
A regular at all the major art fairs, he will be made a Knight of the Legion of Honor.
Like many artists, Guillemet is captivated by the poetry of the Normandy landscape
and, more specifically, the Cotentin region
Normandy possessed qualities that were bound to attract painters in search of light,
and reflection, and eager to express on their canvases the emotions evoked by nature.
The Normandy region is indeed a land of contrasts.
The diversity and beauty of the landscapes are evident both along the coast and in the inland countryside.
Guillemet never ceased to paint the shores, the hidden harbors, the sea…
