He continued his training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Fernand Cormon’s studio, then became a member of the Cercle International des Arts in Paris, where he began exhibiting in 1909, catching the critical eye of the poet Guillaume Apollinaire the following year.
Villiers exhibited successfully at the Salon des Artistes Français between 1909 and 1913 and received the Prix de la Savoie at the 1912 Salon, as well as a third-class medal

Villiers’s treatment of light and reflections brings him close to Galien Laloue, whose urban views of Paris—often depicted in the rain or mist—capture the twinkling of streetlamps and the bustle of the streets with a light, impressionistic touch. Like Luigi Loir, Villiers also accurately renders architecture and urban perspective, combining realistic depiction with poetic sensitivity,
