Louis MURATON 1855-1919

Louis Camille Muraton, better known as Louis Muraton, was born in Tours around 1850 into a family of artists.
The son of painters Alphonse and Euphémie Muraton, he was immersed in the world of art from an early age.

He began training in drawing and painting at an early age, and went on to attend the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he studied under renowned masters such as Léon Bonnat, Alexandre Cabanel and Fernand Cormon.

An accomplished artist, Muraton distinguished himself as a genre painter and portraitist.
He mastered both oil and pastel painting, developing a refined, realistic style.
His works reflect everyday life, the faces of his time and intimate scenes bathed in light.

From 1886, he exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français, a major event in the Paris art world.
In 1889, his talent was rewarded with an honorable mention. Even after his death, his creations continued to appear in exhibitions, notably at the Salon d'Hiver between 1906 and 1914, testifying to the lasting recognition of his work.

Our Breton woman wears a traditional headdress, finely rendered with white and bluish touches, which captures the light of the sky.
Her simple, bright outfit blends softly into the blue and beige range of the second white.

The soft colors convey a calm, contemplative atmosphere.
The diffused light gives the scene a peaceful, poetic quality.
