Majolica is French for "majolica", which is a type of earthenware, most often from Italy and the Renaissance period.
This art was so successful that it was reproduced until the 19th century.
Mainly made in Tuscany or in the Marches. Urbino is one of the most famous cities for the production of majolica.
Majolica, a piece of clay or earthenware, is dipped in a tin-based glaze. It becomes white and opaque and is then coated with metallic oxides.
After firing, the colours and decoration appear.
In the 16th century and later, the coins were given a translucent covering, the coperta, which increased the shine of the coins.
