Further information

Dimensions 66 × 53 × 220 cm

Christ in the center of the scene, surrounded by two Roman centurions, looks directly at the viewer.
The artist shows great technique in this scene.
By positioning the two centurions slightly upside down, with their arms in the air and whips, he succeeds in giving movement to the scene.

Below a decorative frieze composed of fruits, including a pear.

The pear is also the symbol of vanity, pride and stupidity (which can be attributed to the Romans) but also the representation of brutality and torture.

It opens with a flap allowing to position a book when it is folded down and a door in the lower part.
