Emile HIRSCH 1832 -1904

was a painter from Lorraine and a glass artist who studied with Delacroix, Flandrin and Ingres.
Born into a Jewish family in Metz, they later moved to Paris.
In 1844, he won 3rd prize in the general drawing competition held by the city of Paris.
In 1852, he entered the Beaux-Arts.

He began his career as a cartonnier in the world of stained glass.
He even opened his own studio in 1868.
His pupil was Georges Rouault, who was greatly influenced by the revival of the Christian faith.

His works were regularly exhibited at the Salon between 1852 and 1880.

Emile Hirsch was influenced by the Nazarene movement and the English Pre-Raphaelite movement.

His stained glass work can be seen in many French churches and his paintings in museums.
