He is one of the leaders of the fine school of Norman painting of the first half of the 20th century.

He began his studies at the Beaux-Arts du Havre,
In 1899, his talent is recognized, he obtains the price of honor of the superior course with the silver medal of the City of Le Havre.
A municipal scholarship enables him to enter the studio of painter Léon Bonnat at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
He exhibited at the great Salons of his time in France and abroad: in the United States, Japan and Great Britain, where the Duchess of Manchester's dogs earned him immortality.
