GILBERT Victor Gabriel. 1847-1933
Painter of genre, figures, interiors, landscapes and animated urban landscapes, seascapes, gouache painter, watercolorist, pastellist.
He was a student of Victor Adam and Charles Busson. He exhibited in Paris, faithfully at the Salon des Artistes Français, 1889 silver medal, 1897 knight of the Legion of Honor, 1926 Leon Bonnat Prize. He participated in the decorative paintings of the City Hall of Paris.

He painted many figures and portraits of elegant young women and girls, lively views of Paris with their flower sellers.
He was especially noted for his market scenes, vegetable markets, poultry markets, fish markets, and especially flower markets, of a kindly realistic inspiration, focusing particularly on small picturesque details.
Victor Gilbert also loves country life, scenes from Normandy or elsewhere, where he magnifies rural life. He gives to his country scenes a poetry and a love that honors the farmers.
