Alfred Schlomka
is a Hungarian-born painter active in the late XIXᵉ and early XXᵉ centuries.
He studied at the Beaux-Arts in Paris under Duez. His name appears in several European exhibition catalogs, and he was awarded an honorable mention in 1886, followed by a silver medal in 1889,
Schlomka's sensitive portrayal of modest characters, craftsmen, workers and everyday scenes is treated with delicate realism.

His style combines masterful drawing, attention to human detail, and a warm palette, often enlivened by southern light.
Several of his paintings bear witness to his time in North Africa, such as ours, located in Algiers and dated 1888.
The work shows a man draped in a light-colored gandoura, accompanied by his donkey laden with baskets overflowing with flowers. The scene takes place on a sloping street in Algiers, lined with bright buildings, with the turquoise sea visible in the background.
The composition is dominated by the winding movement of the path and the contrast between the warm tones of the ground and the bright colors of the flowers.
