He was a student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1878.

Although he painted views of Paris, Normandy, and scenes from the First World War, Holland occupies an essential and unique place in his work.

Like many French artists of his generation, Bouchor was deeply influenced by his discovery of Dutch landscapes, with their vast skies, canals, and markets.

Bouchor pays particular attention to everyday life, captured without exaggeration, in a spirit close to genre painting.

The light is diffused in this painting, illuminating the faces, fruit, and headdresses of the young women.
The palette, dominated by muted tones—ochres, browns, blues, and grays—is warmed by brighter touches, particularly in the flower and fruit stalls, bringing balance and liveliness to the whole.
