American painter born in Allentown (Pennsylvania, USA).
Our painter is located near Paris and is dated 1885.
After training as an artist, Gross spent most of his career in France from 1870-1880, where he studied with Edmond-Marie Petitjean. After settling permanently in Europe, he participated regularly in the Paris Salon, and also exhibited in the United States (notably at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts).

Gross is best known as a landscape and marine painter: his works depict the French countryside, seashores and coastal scenes, often treated with a realistic facture and a sensitivity for the effects of light and atmosphere typical of the naturalist landscape of the late XIXᵉ century.
He took part in international exhibitions (including the 1889 World's Fair) and appears in local public collections, such as the Allentown Art Museum.
