Gino Romitti 1881-197

Italian painter, born in Livorno.
He studied at the Beaux-Arts under Giovanni Fattori, one of the greatest exponents of the Macchiolis.
He retained this influence throughout his career. In opposition to classical painting, the Macchiolis painted works in which the "stain", a flat area of color, is very present.

In 1898, he took part in La Permanente in Milan, while continuing his training in Guglielmo Micheli's studio until 1902, when he struck up a close friendship with Amedeo Modigliani. In 1920, together with other Livornese artists, he founded the Groupe Labronico, of which he was president from 1943 to 1967.

He exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1903 and 1912, and in the same years produced paintings influenced by Pointillist theories, such as The Sun in the Garden, exhibited in Rome at the 1914 Internazionale and later purchased by King Vittorio Emanuele III. In 1904, he took part in the Secessionist Exhibition at the Palazzo Corsini in Florence, with Galileo Chini. In 1953, he participated in the birth of the Prix Rotonda in Livorno. He died in Livorno in 1967.
