Julien-Gustave Gagliardini (1846–1927)
French painter
Gagliardini first studied under the history painter Claude Soulary, then joined Léon Cogniet's studio at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He then turned his attention to figure painting. He made his debut at the 1869 Salon with portraits and genre scenes.
He abandoned historical subjects in favor of landscapes, to which he devoted himself from the 1880s onwards.
He benefited from several purchases by the government and won a silver medal at the 1889 World's Fair and a gold medal at the 1900 World's Fair.

Gagliardini frequently travels and stays on the French coast, particularly on the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts, where he draws most of his inspiration.
Seascapes occupy a central place in Gagliardini's work.
He is particularly interested in fishing scenes, which he depicts with great accuracy of observation and without idealization.
Boats beached on the sand, fishermen returning from their catch, figures of fishermen at work or waiting: under his brush, these subjects become scenes of beautiful, luminous canvases.
