Georges BILLAUDOT (Paris, 1868-1951)

Provenance: Artist's family.

An instructor at the École spéciale de Saint-Cyr, he abandoned his military career after his marriage in 1902 to devote himself fully to his art.
His colorful palette and vibrant touch reveal the influence of Post-Impressionism and Seurat's Pointillism.
A self-taught artist, he painted exclusively "on the motif." In Paris, his favorite subjects were the Tuileries Garden and the banks of the Seine.

Further information

He acquired the Château de Chailloué in the Orne department, which he depicted extensively. This painting depicts the garden.

The composition emphasizes sensation and atmosphere rather than descriptive detail, with a fragmented and free touch that suggests forms rather than defining them.

The light palette, dominated by pastel tones and subtle shades of blue, green, and pink, reflects a harmonious style typical of post-impressionism.
