Jules Bonheur (1827-1901)
is both a painter and an animal sculptor.
He first studied painting with his father, then at the École des Beaux-Arts. He then turned to sculpture, which he practiced from an early age.
He participated in the Salons until 1899 and won a medal at the one in 1989. He was made a knight of the Legion of Honour in 1895.
He is the author, among other things, of the stone lions that adorn the staircase of the Palais de Justice, Place Dauphine in Paris and the monument to the memory of Rosa Bonheur in Fontainebleau.
