Henri Le Riche 1868-1944
Is a French painter, engraver and illustrator.
He began his studies at the Beaux-Arts in Grenoble under Eugène Bernard, then in Paris under the supervision of William Bougeureau and Tony Robert Fleury.
He thus acquired a solid classical grounding, and combined this with his talent to win the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1888.

He exhibited in the Salons and galleries of his day, such as the Galerie Georges Petit.
He was awarded a silver medal and made Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1922.
In 1935, he was elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in the engraving section.
As well as being a renowned engraver and sculptor, Le Riche was also a painter and traveler.
Between 1909 and 1915, he traveled to China, Japan and North Africa.
Outside these countries, Venice and Watteau's 18th-century paintings inspired him greatly, as our pastel shows.
