Hamburg received a wide range of training, including the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts, the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs and long stays at the Louvre, where he met Derain.
In 1933, he became a resident at the Villa Ad el Tif (the French equivalent of the Villa Médicis in North Africa).
From 1929 onwards, he took part in the major French and international art fairs.
Throughout his career, he received the greatest French and foreign distinctions.
