Fernand LANTOINE 1876-1956
. He then studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he met Paul Signac, whose neo-Impressionism was to mark his later work.
He became a painter in the French Navy in 1922, embarking aboard the French fleet for missions in the Mediterranean and North Africa.
In 1925, as part of his missions, he discovered the Belgian Congo. His painting took on a striking simplicity, far removed from the mannerism of some of his Orientalist contemporaries.
He exhibited at the Salon des artistes français4 in 1927, and at the Exposition coloniale internationale de Paris in 1931.
