Born in Egypt into a family of wealthy landowners,
he initially prepared for a career in law.
However, his passion for art won out,
and moved to Paris in the 1910s.
It was here that he became acquainted with modern artists, in particular Albert Marquet,
who exerted a significant influence on his career.
His works are now on show in museums
in museums in France, Egypt and Japan.
