A member of the Société des Peintres orientalistes français, he exhibited his work at the Salon des Artistes algériens et orientalistes in Algiers.
A travel grant, obtained in 1882, enabled him to visit Germany, Italy, Tunisia and Spain. Between 1890 and 1900, he stayed in Biskra, where he painted scenes of daily life.
He was made a knight and, in 1914, an officer of the Legion of Honor.
He painted flowers, numerous views and typical scenes of Algeria. Above all, he specialized in landscapes and picturesque genre scenes of Venice, which seduced critics and collectors alike with his lively, cheerful touch.
