As with Albert Marquet, the banks of the Seine become a modern motif in their own right: barges, quays, industrial structures, and the urban skyline are treated without picturesqueness, with sobriety.
The landscape is no longer idealized, but observed in its everyday reality.
The modernity of the painting is also evident in the simplification of forms and the clarity of the composition
Dominated by grays, greens, and cool blues, the color and line organize the space and create an atmosphere of modern calm.
