The painting is fully in keeping with the great tradition of aristocratic portraiture of the late 17th and 18th centuries, both in its composition and its symbolic language.

The model is depicted in a three-quarter bust portrait, with a calm and confident gaze directed toward the viewer.
This pose, inherited from official painting, is typical of ceremonial portraits intended to assert social rank and authority.

The long, abundantly curled wig, very fashionable during the reign of Louis XIV and still widely worn at the beginning of the 18th century, reinforces this impression of dignity and high status.

It is directly reminiscent of the effigies of military or administrative nobility found in the works of Hyacinthe Rigaud, Nicolas de Largillierre, and their followers.
