He travels in Spain during all the year 1891: Seville, Madrid, Saragossa, the country has no more secret for him.
Alongside his official output, Gervais produced a number of intimist paintings, the topography of his travels in Spain and Italy. Scenes from the daily life of the inhabitants, which he transcribed with a less academic, freer and more colorful touch.
Our painting probably dates from 1891, the year of his Spanish journey.
