This iconic work depicts a Parisian street covered in snow, bathed in soft, diffused light. The composition draws the eye toward a vanishing point in the center, where the street seems to fade into a light winter mist.
Sketched passersby and a horse-drawn carriage cross the scene, their blurred silhouettes conveying the city’s movement and bustle.
The palette is dominated by cool tones that suggest snow and a frigid atmosphere, punctuated by warm touches of ochre and yellow to convey the light reflecting off the facades and the snow.
The shadows cast by passersby and trees accentuate the depth and reinforce the impression of a low sun, typical of winter.
On the right, a row of trees adds verticality and rhythm to the scene, while on the left, the buildings are suggested by colorful, textured brushstrokes
The dense, vibrant brushwork creates a perceptible sense of depth, accentuating the effect of snow and the winter light.
The scene exudes a hushed, poetic atmosphere, where the stillness of the snow contrasts with the city’s quiet, unceasing bustle, making this painting a remarkable example of Montézin’s talent for capturing the magic of winter in Paris.
