Albert Sébille (1874 - 1953)
French Navy painter, illustrator and poster artist
After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Marseille, he moved to Paris in the 1890s to continue his artistic training. He became a pupil of Jean-Léon Gérôme, one of the great masters of academicism, from whom he learned rigorous drawing, anatomical precision and scene construction. These solid technical foundations would later nourish his characteristic style: figurative, realistic and meticulous painting.

In 1906, he received the prestigious title of Peintre Officiel de la Marine, a distinction awarded to artists whose talent and sensitivity serve the memory and glory of the French Navy. This appointment confirmed his place among the greatest maritime artists of his time.
After the war, Albert Sébille extended his talent to other media. He became an illustrator for the press, collaborating in particular with the famous magazine L'Illustration, to which he supplied numerous plates and covers devoted to the navy, tall ships and expeditions.
He also distinguished himself as a poster artist for Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, Messageries Maritimes and other companies.
