From a modest family,
his parents dreamed of a position with the gas company to secure his future.

But Emile, aged 14, wanted a different future
more artistic.
He joined a decorating firm, then attended evening classes at the Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux.
He practiced academic art.

His talent catches the eye of an art dealer who finances his trip to Paris.

It was in Gustave Moreau's studio
that Brunet began his career.

Few 19th-century painters
painters have had as much influence on their students as,
Gustave Moreau (1826-1898).
Painter, illustrator, symbolist decorator,
he was one of the greatest masters of his time.
Emile Brunet developed different styles throughout his career,
our works - especially our mermaid - bear the
bear the imprint of Gustave Moreau.
Brunet defined his early works as follows
"form is definitive,
while thought is contemplative".
The artist treats form and pictorial richness as much as the primacy of thought and mystery.

At the same time, Brunet began designing interiors for private mansions and furniture.

It is legitimate to think that our studies
on the marine theme, and the preparation of stained glass
were executed in response to a commission.
