Mihail Teișanu (1884 - 1944)
Romanian painter, illustrator and museum director
Teișanu began his artistic training at the Școala de Arte Frumoase (School of Fine Arts) in Bucharest, an institution marked by French academic heritage.
Seeking to broaden his horizons, he continued his studies in Paris at the Académie Julian, a private studio renowned for its openness to foreign artists.
Here, he encountered a cosmopolitan environment, where academic rigor and stylistic daring went hand in hand, influenced by masters such as Bouguereau and Baschet.

Versatile, Teișanu distinguishes himself as much in painting as in illustration and graphic arts.
His compositions feature female figures, sensual interiors, and symbolist atmospheres, sometimes tinged with orientalism.
One of the most striking facets of his work is his illustration of several tales written or chosen by Queen Marie of Romania.
These refined illustrations helped establish his reputation in the literary and artistic circles of the time.
Parallel to his creative activity, Mihail Teișanu held the post of director of the Aman Museum in Bucharest, reinforcing his role in the Romanian cultural landscape of the interwar period.
His small formats - interiors, female nudes, intimate scenes - testify to technical mastery, served by a delicate approach to the human figure and hushed atmospheres.
