Abel BERTRAM 1871-1954
The son of a haulier, he was initially self-taught and trained with Léon Bonnat at the Beaux-Arts in Lille and Paris.
He frequented the Impressionist and modern painters of his time.
He enjoys following them on their travels, painting with them "en plein air".
He returns to his childhood home, Saint-Omer, to paint the landscapes he loves so much.

He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris in 1899, and his works were well received by the critics.
In 1901, he received an honorable mention.
Bertram exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants from 1905 to 1939.
His works can be found in numerous museums in France,
Orsay, Petit-Palais and abroad.
Abel Bertram is unclassifiable and does not join any movement.
He painted with the impressionist Antoine Guillemet as well as the modern Louis Valtat and Espagnat.
