Julien CELOS 1884-1953
Belgian painter and engraver.
Trained at the Antwerp Academy.
A great engraver, he was an active member of the Comité de la Gravure Originale Belge.
Most of his work is composed of rural and urban landscapes of Belgian Flanders (Bruges, Antwerp and Ghent), the Netherlands and France. Indeed, he traveled extensively, notably to Brittany, but also to Tunisia for a study trip.

He leaves for England during the 1st World War.
In 1908, he received an honorable mention at the Salon des artistes français.
During his lifetime, his paintings met with some success.
Le Cercle Artistique" gives sanctuary to some twenty selected works by Julien Célos. They are picturesque urban landscapes, full of movement and poetry.
At an exhibition in Brighton, he was described as "one of the best artists to interpret the picturesque side of small Flemish towns.
He likes to depict the intimate corners of the city of Bruges, with its small canals and the life of its inhabitants.
In the countryside, he chooses the goose-sitters or the farmer, always with a strong presence of nature.
