He eventually returned to the Beaux-Arts under the aegis of Pelouse and Troyon, and took part in the Paris Salon from 1872 to 1907.
He won a third medal in 1878, a second medal in 1881 and a bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle de Paris in 1889.
Having studied under one of Barbizon's greatest masters, Constant Troyon, his painting is reminiscent of his teacher's naturalism, with a modern twist.
The painter's framing was inspired by the nascent art of photography. A tight, full-length shot, a balanced composition.
Dameron loves to paint donkeys, and they feature in almost all his paintings. Accompanied here by his mistress, Dameron offers a tender genre scene.
