NEYMARCK GUSTAVE (1850-1925)
A painter from Poitou, Gustave MardochéNeymarck exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français between 1880 and 1920.
His work focuses on scenes of equestrian leisure and typical 19th-century Parisian life.
Our work depicts the hustle and bustle of Parisian life, concentrating all the emblematic activities of fin-de-siècle Paris in a single space.
The triple point of view leads the eye to this young woman dressed in the fashion of wealthy Parisians, with her headdress, elegant black dress and red underwear. She appears to be holding a satin-finished hatbox, which must contain a magnificent, fashionable accessory she has just purchased.

The scene is immersed in a misty, grayish atmosphere, enhanced by the colors that enliven it. Neymarck highlights the place of the bourgeois, liberated Parisian woman at the end of the 19th century, who sets the latest fashions and has a good time in the places of modernity: cafés-concerts, opera houses, theaters, ballrooms and stores.
