Gustave Hervigo 1896–1993
A French marine painter, explorer, and tireless observer of the world, he developed a deeply personal body of work, inspired by his encounters, his travels, and his love of both landscapes and scenes of everyday life.
Coming from a family of artisans, he grew up alongside his father, a saddler, and began working in the world of leather and leather goods at a very young age.
Although he did not receive a traditional academic education, he benefited from the guidance of the Rambolitan painter Henri Laigneau, who encouraged him in his artistic explorations.
