A versatile artist, Joncières regularly exhibited at the Salon des artistes français and the Salon d'automne.
He also distinguished himself as a watercolorist, illustrator and poet.
Among his most notable achievements is Le Grand Escalier (1926), an oil on canvas now in the Musée d'Orsay, which illustrates his taste for architectural compositions and the refined staging of spaces.
Our painting in Villeneuce-les-Avignon is bathed in soft light, with a harmony of warm, golden tones, contrasted by the deep green of the cypress and the red flashes of the climbing vegetation.
True to his academic training, but sensitive to Impressionist atmospheres, he does not limit himself to realistic description: above all, he conveys the emotion aroused by the place.
