Antoine Chintreuil - 1814-1873
French painter of landscapes.
A student of Corot, he made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1847.
He won numerous medals in France and abroad, and at world's fairs.
He was awarded the Légion d'honneur in 1870.
Today, a museum is dedicated to him, and his works can be found in major French museums such as the Louvre and Orsay.
According to many critics, he is perhaps Corot's most remarkable disciple. No one has transcribed the master's vision better than he, but with his own personal touch.
He painted a great deal of the countryside around Paris, particularly Igny and the Bièvre valley. He was sometimes seen in Barbizon
