In this tiny oil painting of a market scene, a mother and her two young daughters choose fruit from a vendor behind her well-stocked baskets.
The whiteness of the clothes, the colorful brilliance of the fruit and the deep look in the little girl's eyes immediately catch the viewer's eye.
With its intimate format and tender subject matter, this work testifies to Gilbert's talent for capturing the poetry of ordinary moments and the beauty of everyday life.
