In 1901, Guillonnet received a national travel grant, which allowed him
to stay in Algeria and discover the light of the Maghreb.

This experience profoundly influenced his color palette and his approach to
color and light—characteristics that would define his entire career.

Official painter of the Third
Republic, he received public commissions and participated in major exhibitions, winning awards such as thesilver medal at the 1900 Paris World’s Fair, as well as honorary decorations (Royal Order of Cambodia, Order of the Crown
of Italy, Order of SaintStanislaus in Russia).Stanislas in Russia).

This small oil painting immerses us in a poetic and fantastical world, where the artist’s imagination is expressed with lightness and refinement.
At the center of the composition, a small winged figure, dressed in a bright yellow costume, seems to be dancing or guiding the scene, surrounded by panthers with spotted brown coats who watch him with curiosity.
The twisted trees and luminous sky create a dreamlike setting, where pastel colors—purples, golds, and soft greens—evoke a delicate and harmonious atmosphere
