In the 19th century, painters depicted numerous scenes featuring bishops in their red robes drinking tea in opulent interiors.

Country priests are also portrayed as being close to their parishioners, cheerful, fun-loving, and sometimes a little mischievous, like ours.

Our priest is the central figure in the composition. He is smiling and cheerful, holding two bottles of wine and a small vegetable (a squash or melon) in his left hand, while his right hand carries a small tray with a lit candle.

These depictions show priests in a human, everyday context: with a glass of wine, farm produce, interacting with locals, or even with a comical or affectionate side.
