In the 19th century, many artists brought back into fashion what is known as barbotine: a pottery paste diluted in water, used to glue accessories onto the pieces. It is very ornate and embossed.
Those who are called imitators or followers decide, according to their desires, to respect Palissy's tradition or to reinvent it.
Of all the great names of the time, Gambut is "a leading ceramist, whose dishes and cameo plates are considered the most remarkable; his production is rare".
