A night table or bedside table is a piece of furniture that is characterised by its small size.
From the 17th and 18th centuries onwards, the bedside table became very important, as women began to entertain more in their private flats, bedrooms or anterooms.
The piece of furniture became more elegant and followed fashion. The bedside table was fitted with niches and drawers.
