The cabinet is a wooden piece of furniture of Spanish origin,
manufactured between the 16th and 18th centuries,
designed for writing or filing papers, and suitable for transport by mule or donkey.
Luxurious specimens can be finished in gold leaf and adorned with ivory, shells or other inlays.
The name is of uncertain origin, coinciding with the name of the inhabitants of the town of Bargas in the province of Toledo (Spain).
In other European languages, these pieces of furniture or their emulsions are called "cabinet" (in French, English, German, Portuguese and Italian) and form a whole with office furniture.
