Belgian painter who spent most of his career in France.
Painter of genre scenes, portraits, landscapes, draughtsman and illustrator.

He made his debut in his native country at the Antwerp Academy.
He soon moved to Paris.
He was present at all the Salons of his day

Critics of the time praised his luminous works, imbued with a lively poetic feeling, and denoting a fine sensitivity, combined with great qualities of harmony and composition.
