Italian painter and sculptor from Florence.
The son of a carpenter, he started out as an apprentice in his father's workshop.
He then entered the Florence Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied with Pollastrini, the great Italian painter of the time.

In 1863, he moved to Pisa with his family, where he was awarded the silver medal in the drawing competition held by the Pisa Academy of Fine Arts.
In 1886, they finally decided to settle in Paris. Now living in the French capital, he befriended Guy de Maupassant.
He exhibited at the Salon de Paris in 1888 and was awarded a bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle de Paris in 1892.
