Marthe-Marie-Hélène Orant, 1874-1957
is a French post-impressionist painter.
A student of Marcel Bachet,.
Like the painters of her time, she likes to paint Parisian scenes of quays, streets, public gardens and the lake in the Bois de Boulogne, with a lively touch and pastel colors.
Her scenes are often tranquil and poetic, following in the footsteps of Renoir, Bonnard and the Nabis.
She also befriended the painter Edouard Vuillard (1868-1940).
Marthe Orant also loved to paint nature and work in the open air. There are many depictions of undergrowth and forests.
