The tapestry is woven from wool and silk. The colours have kept all their freshness.
The borders and dimensions are original, we will note a monogram RA, with a flower, in the low right border.
Oudenaarde executed pieces of great virtuosity and imposed a new trend that was to become fashionable.
The sources of inspiration are multiple: the Bible, mythological stories or poets of antiquity.
In the centre of our tapestry, a young woman walks by a fountain that feeds a luxuriant flora and numerous animals.
Two clues suggest a work with mythological resonance.
In the background, in the sky, two peacocks pull a chariot with a woman. This is probably a representation of the goddess Hera, wife of Zeus, king of Olympus.
In the centre, an eagle is staring at the young girl. The eagle is the symbol of Zeus (perhaps the tapestry tells of one of Zeus' many seductions).
In the border, the presence of several sphinxes, fabulous monsters of the ancient arts, further increases the relevance of a mythical decorative tone.
