He was a student at the École des Arts et Métiers in Châlons-sur-Marne, and then, from 1906, with Fernand Cormon at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
He traveled extensively to Morocco, Congo, Brazil, Peru and Bolivia, where he was sent as head of the painting studio at the La Paz School of Fine Arts.
He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français de Paris, where he won an honorable mention in 1913, a silver medal in 1922, the Prix Rosa Bonheur in 1924, a gold medal in 1932 and a medal of honor in 1959.
